Art For Aid Project

Vendor Biography

The Art For Aid Project works to support First Nations, Inuit and Metis art education programs through access to quality art supplies and skills labs, cultural awareness and fundraising efforts. We help to supply existing Land Based Learning and Language programs  to help youth reconnect to culture. We work with I Love First Peoples to establish sewing skills labs in remote schools.  We seek to accomplish this by ensuring that Indigenous youth in remote schools and communities have access to quality learning tools.
The Project:  We support education through access to quality learning tools. The operations and shipping budget is replenished through the sale of Colleen Gray’s beautiful contemporary art products, through fundraising efforts and monetary donations made through I Love First Peoples (www.ilfp.ca).
Art exploration in schools and communities has always been vulnerable to cutbacks. Art provides an outlet to help alleviate boredom and isolation and invites critical thinking and healing. Art can bring comfort and build creative skills, but it all begins with having the supplies needed.
One of the long-term goals for this program is to ignite and inspire the curiosity of Indigenous youth to learn both new and existing art forms. We hope to give youth the supports to help them express their stories, personal messages and expand on their creative skills.
