Diamond by Theresa Bear Fox
$20.00
I am from the Kanienkehaka, which means, People of Flint. More commonly known as the Mohawk Nation. In the beginning of my songwriting, my songs were written mainly in Kanienkeha, the Mohawk Language, for our women’s group, called Kontiwennenhawi. Kontiwennenhawi translates to “Carriers of the Words” and we are also known as Akwesasne Women’s Singers. Our language is struggling to survive right now, so it is important to our women’s group and I, to put our language into the songs. – Theresa Bear Fox.
Bear and Kontiwennenhai contribute to the survival of Kanienkahaka language. Many of the songs on her albums are sung by women in ceremony and children in schools. Bear is a leader, teacher, sister and friend. She is loved and respected for her knowledge of language, ceremony and teachings. Listen to some of Bear’s songs at https://www.bearfoxmusic.com/music
